Advice for Trail Runners: Inspired by mountain goats, the Brooks Women's Cascadia 17 trail running shoes are ready for your mountain adventures. While we're pretty sure the designers didn't get a chance to chat with them, their hooved anatomy influenced the outsole.
Underfoot Feel
The biomimetic design of the Brooks Women's Cascadia 17 is based on mountain goat hooves. To explain further, the forefoot area is split, enabling the outsole to adapt to uneven terrain. In fact, if you look at the outsole, you'll see a number of sections that Brooks refer to as pods. Each one moves to maximise grip.
TrailTack Green Rubber (made with 25% recycled content) grips wet and dry surfaces.
A DNA LOFT v2 midsole has an articulated Ballistic Rock Shield sandwiched in the middle. As the rock plate flexes with the outsole, it feels protective and stable. The DNA LOFT v2 offers similar cushioning properties as popular road running, shoes such as the Brooks Ghost 15 and Adrenaline GTS 23.
Upper Fit
In addition to looking amazing, the upper of the Brooks Cascadia 17 is PrintDyed. 66% of the energy and 75% of the water required for the traditional dye process is saved as a result of this.
If you look at the toe box, you'll see a differently coloured material along the edge. This is a TPU toe cap and mudguard. It protects your toes from hard objects on trails and increases the durability of this trail running shoe.
Ideal Run Type
The Brooks Cascadia 17 trail running shoe should feel protective, adaptive and grippy on rocky terrain. We're aware runners want their trail running shoes to be durable. The Cascadia 17 has all the hallmarks of a shoe that will stand up to the harsh demands of off-road running.
We don't recommend running in these on very steep slopes. A deeper lugged hill running shoe will perform better on that type of terrain.
Your running shoes should have enough width to allow you to spread your toes and should have some space at the front (we recommend having a half to one thumb's width of space from the end of your longest toe to the front of your running shoes).
This usually means that your running shoe will be at least a half size bigger than your regular shoe size though this can vary from brand to brand.
